Event Testimonials

Here is what some of the athletes had to say about the event:

“Your marketing materials said I’d be inspired by this event, and I was. I was inspired by the amazing scenery. I was inspired by the spectators ringing bells, holding signs, and encouraging us throughout the route. And I was inspired to push myself by all of the other athletes who were pushing THEMselves to achieve their goals. But, perhaps more importantly to me, this event inspired my family, too.  My three-year old daughter met me at the finish line and asked, “Daddy, can I race here with you someday when I get big?” Personally, I can’t wait for that day. This was a tremendous event. I can’t wait ’til next year.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I have competed all over the world and this event is by far the most scenic, well run and fun event to compete in–this will be an annual event for me.”

“I have run in several marathons including Boston, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Antonio and none hold a candle to the GREAT organization of your event.”

“Great event. Great location. Flawless process checking in and communication prior to event. This become a standing annual trip for my family and I as long as it continues! The communities that are impacted by this event should become more involved as you guys are bringing a lot of attention and business to them. Thank you.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Absolutely perfect!!! I come from Chicago because I love this venue, the challenge and the people I meet here.  I am 71, so I am not I it for the “win”, I am here for the beauty of this area, the unique race and the wonderful people I meet.  I sincerely hope that God allows me to do this race for a few more  years!!!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Probably the most beautiful and best-organized race I’ve ever done.  Fabulously fun, party atmosphere, everybody in the mood for a good time – you guys rock!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“For someone who thought they couldn’t do it, it was awesome.  I was amazed that all the work you do really pays off.  I think everything runs really smooth.  Pickup of equipment is another challenge of its own, but you only have so much room to work with and you do a great job getting people in and out.   I hope to compete next year too!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Definitely a challenge, but a fun one. Run very well, and has a nice friendly atmosphere.”
-From Event Exit Survey

-From Event Exit Survey

“Love the area. I’ve done the race in conjunction with the NorthWest Bike Tour the last 2 years, so I stay at Indigo Bluffs with the tour. We eat and shop in Glen Arbor, and enjoyed biking on the new section of the trail.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Hats off to race organizers for everything!! We shop and eat in Glenn Arbor and TC. Lodging in TC. Pretty much the coolest race I could ever imaging participating in!! Race organizers put on a near perfect race… thank you!!”
-Jeff Dykehouse #244

“There were so many awesome improvements this year! The shirts were great; having gender-specific sizing was fantastic, and the second shirt was a nice surprise. Loved, loved, LOVED the finishers medals and AG awards. Makes an already fabulous event even more special. The extra photographers were also a bonus this year; we’ve enjoyed checking out the event photos as you post them.

We stay with friends for the event, but we make time to visit some shops and grab lunch. Of course we visit the M-22 store, Cherry Republic (because we’ve earned it after the race!) and we’ve made a tradition of eating lunch at Good Harbor Grill after the race.

The M-22 Challenge is, without question, my favorite race of the season. It offers a challenging course with gorgeous views and wonderful camaraderie. It also has the best post-race food, hands down! This is my second year racing and the event just keeps getting better — can’t wait for 2015!”
-Beth Pellerito

“One of my favorite events of the year!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I thought the race went great! We ate at Arts Tavern and went shopping at some local stores around the area. I really enjoy it in Glen Arbor and I always have a blast on my visits there. Loved the medals!!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Very beautiful and friendly event!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“You should consider having a state wide series (Several M22′s throughout the year).  I am struggling to find another event for later this year that is of this caliber.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Blinkin fantastic event!  very well set-up, absolutely beautiful part of the world and most importantly, the atmosphere.  The atmosphere was so friendly and the fact that Glen Arbor is ok with being overrun with wannabe athletes for the weekend is fantastic. I’ll be back next year with bells on….”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I love it!!! Not sure how you could improve it except ‘guarantee’ perfect weather every year!!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This race is SO MUCH FUN.  It is incredibly beautiful, unique, and well run.  Everyone is helpful and friendly.  My bike wasn’t shifting gears correctly before the race, and with only 30 minutes until race time, two volunteers got my bike in working order and saved the race for me.  I really appreciated their patience and willingness to help me.  The food after the race was really delicious too.  The transition area worked great.  All in all, this is my favorite race.  I will be doing this race for years to come. Glen Arbor is incredibly beautiful.  We ate at Art’s (food actually made me sick, however my friends all had a good experience).  Visited Cherry Republic and the stores around them.  We enjoyed the beach nearby as well.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I am in LOVE! My new boyfriend is triathlons and his name is The M22 Challenge! The race was well organized, fun, and in an incredibly beautiful place!!! I had a blast!! Is it weird that I am sad the race is over? My only fear is that I won’t be quick enough to make the cut when the registration opens up next year. I know it sells out within a few hours. I stayed at the Homestead. 14 of us rented a house. It was wonderful! We ate at Arts and another place with a deck down the road. We also stopped into that store with a pizzeria in it. Great pizza!!! We shopped at the M22 store as well.

We loved Pyramid Point, The Leeland Wine Festival, Doing a Polar Plunge into Lake MI the night of the race, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Empire Bluffs, The scenic Empire drive and The Grocers Daughter Chocolates.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“As a three-peat participant, I’m trying to plan a pregnancy around ensuring that I don’t miss a race!  We rent a house on Glen Lake (The Blue Inn), and we go to the shops downtown Glen Arbor including the Totem Store, Momentum, Haystacks, etc.  We’ve done dinner at Art’s and Boone Docks, and had ice cream in town. We also usually head up to Fish Town too.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“My daughter and I look forward to this event every year.  It is in the  most beautiful spot in the world!”
-Kelly and Alison Shrift

“Awesome – Thank you for your effort to organize this event!  It is a great goal and motivation during the long winter to get in shape for the summer. The shirts and medals are COOL and a nice souvenir/keep shake. We always visit Art’s, Cherry Republic, Anderson’s, Pine Cone, Momentum, Boon Docks, M22 store, Crystal River Outfitters, Lake Effect, Haystacks, Ruth Conklin Gallery, Petosky Pete’s, Cottage Book Store, Great Lakes Tea & Spice, imagine that, Bay Wear, Glen Haven General Store, Elements, Northwoods Hardware, Misers Hoard, Grocers Daughter, Friendlys Tavern, Empire Beach, the Homestead via VRBO. National Park – Pierce Stocking Drive, Dune Climb and the Heritage trail.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Second year of competing.  We travel from Chelsea, MI.  We haul our kayaks and bikes.  It’s an event well worth the effort.  I’m 64 and my wife is 58.  We plan on competing next year, WE LOVE Everything about it.”
-Dave London

“This event has become the gateway to summer event for my friends and I.  We started 4 years ago with 3 participants.  This year we had 13 racers and multiple Father and Son racers. My best friends 15 year old son was the 2nd fastest runner.  Can’t wait to see what he does next year! On race weekends years we don’t have it we stay with Katie & Jeff at the Glen Arbor B&B.  Wouldn’t stay anywhere else than Glen Arbor.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Wonderful event!  Very well run and organized!  Beautiful area!  Can’t wait for next year! Gonna grab a few more friends and hope we’re able to register before it closes. We travel from out of town and stayed in the area this year, Maple Lane Resort.  Boondock’s was nice for pre and post-race celebrations.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Classy, yet very cool, event.  Run-bike-paddle is a great sequence with distances that are a challenge without feeling impossible.  M22 Challenge has been a game-changer for me, allowing me to see what I am capable of.  Thank you M22!
Thank you for the women’s fit t’s and for the participation medal!  The cotton t was a nice bonus, would love a women’s fit here also or a long-sleeved t version.  Loved the color.  The event ran so smoothly for me.  I had all of the info I needed to feel prepared (felt this way last year too for my first time.).  Communication was great, I like the Facebook group and the photography is very much appreciated.  Beth Price’s photos are spectacular!  I am so excited for next year!
I love this area!  We spend time outside on the beach at Empire and Sleeping Bear Dunes.  I like to bike the trail (I’m excited to try the new trail!), shop Glen Arbor, kayak the Crystal River…I LOVE it all!  We had a fantastic meal at Funastrada Sat night.”
-From Event Exit Survey

-From Event Exit Survey

“Great Event, Great Organization, Great Volunteers, Great Scenery, and Great Awards and Finishers Metals. I think it is definitely the most fun race of the year.”
-Duane Amato

“Love this event.  The views are great.  The mix of the sand dunes run with the bike around the lake.  Then finish with the kayak is a great finish.  I kayak but like that a division was made for SUP they work so hard.   Like all the different awards.  Great event will always come back.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I was impressed with your volunteers handling the kayak pick up.  It was organized and went very quickly. We ate at Cherry Republic.  We also had great pizza at the Village Inn in Empire.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“A very well run event with extremely friendly and helpful volunteers.  Train a little or train a lot – it’s always a fun time! Love the area and travel up there from Troy, MI several times a year.  We usually camp at Platte River Campground, Indigo Bluffs or stay at Best Western in Benzonia.  Love to shop, eat and kayak Crystal River in Glen Arbor.  We also like to shop and eat in Frankfort, Beulah, Benzonia, Empire and Leland.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“My first tri and I loved it!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I look forward to this event every year! The course is beautiful, the organizers/volunteers/spectators/participants are so encouraging, and it allow you to challenge yourself in new ways each year! Packet-less pick up was a nice change and the new finisher medals this year were awesome! My favorite places to stop are Good Harbor Grill, the M22 Store, and Cherry Reublic!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This is the most fun, most well organized, most scenic, and most challenging race in Michigan if not the entire Midwest. We stay with friends in Onekama but enjoy browsing and shopping in Glen Arbor.  Volunteers are amazing, especially the dropping off and picking up this year. Great job everyone!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This was great, very, very well organized. This may be why I cannot think of any improvement.”

-From Event Exit Survey

“The most organized event we have ever participated in!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I have been competing in this race for three years and it is my favorite one that I do all year. I am a teacher and love celebrating the end of the year and a kick off to summer this weekend. I love that there is a nice cap to the event, it is so nicely organized, and all the volunteers and race participants are really friendly. The scenery is amazing, and I love the unique element of kayaking instead of swimming, as well as running up a sand dune! It is a challenging race and I always feel a sense of accomplishment from this one, more than the rest of the races I do throughout the year. Thank you for such a great event!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“The event is really fantastic, the volunteers do an amazing job keeping things organized, all with a smile and friendly words. Glen Arbor is an amazing town. An Art’s burger is always a must have…”

-From Event Exit Survey

“Everything was super organized this year – you do seem to get better every year.  This was my 4th time. We always eat at Boondocks after the race and love it.  Also drink coffee at the little coffee shop where they make that yummy orange flavored coffee.  Great town! Great fun!  Good job!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I came in from Cleveland for a very short weekend trip just to do this race.  I thought the race was run VERY smoothly. I am an amateur tri-athlete (M-22 was only my 2nd one EVER).  I almost had to bail on the race when our vacation plans fell through, but I am BEYOND thrilled that I decided to still do it.  That race was one of the most memorable events in my life – what a well-run race, with very knowledgeable volunteers, and such beautiful scenery. There were times during the race that I felt myself smiling like a kid in a candy store because I was SO happy to be there in such a gorgeous place…I also got so caught up in the beauty a few times that I almost forgot I was racing (oops!). Seriously, what an amazing event.  I can’t wait to do it again!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Huge Congrats and thank you for adding SUP division this year.  Great call! We have stayed in Glen Arbor each of last 5 years – one of highlights of summer – eat every meal there and drink every drink there… Good stuff.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This is my fourth M-22 Challenge. I keep thinking I am too old for this, but it gives me a goal to keep in the back of my mind and to train for all year long! It is very well-organized. Everyone is supportive and friendly. It is held in a gorgeous part of northern Michigan. It is a gem of an event! We love Glen Arbor and enjoy going to Boondocks, Arts Bar and all of the other local shops. The great thing is that after the M-22 Challenge, we head to Boondocks to meet up with friends. So far it hasn’t been over-crowded. There is room for all and it is a great time!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Overall, great event!  I really enjoy the course and the organization is well done.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Great event for all types of athletes.”

“The M-22 Challenge was my first triathlon – I’m hooked!! Beautiful location, streamlined and well-organized event, and SO much fun! My friends and I are having race-withdrawals now that it’s over. We all can’t wait to participate again next year! Whoot whoot!”
-Nicole Cresalia

“I can’t think of one thing bad about this event. Well run, routes are great, it’s the best event on the calendar. Post race food great. You should be proud you’ve come up with a winner here.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This was my first year at the m22 challenge but won’t be my last.  Was an excellent race at one of the most beautiful areas in Michigan. Can’t wait till next year!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This was my first multi-sport event and was the perfect introduction to the sport. I loved the course, and it kept me motivated to train all winter. I will definitely plan to be back next year and will take another 10 minutes off from my time.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“The idea of competing in the M-22 Challenge was daunting at first, but my husband and I started training specifically for a tri-event.  Some of our adult children also signed up and trained.  There were a group of about 10 of us — family and friends — who participated together.  It was fun planning, training and talking about the event.  We all survived the Challenge with some doing better than others, but we all supported each other.  It was a great day!  Looking forward to next year and improving my times!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This was a dream come true, an incredible way to express the life that is, and to enjoy outdoor experience of the, amazing area * M-22 *.  Can not wait for the next one!”
-Chris Loper

“It was a great event, in a great location. Hopefully next year will be just as good.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This is an incredible event.  Everyone is friendly, even with participants talking and encouraging each other during the event.  It is people enjoying being outside and active.  It is also amazing the different types of athletes all intermingled that you see on the course, from beginners to amateurs to professional, nationally known, athletes.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Everyone is so enthusiastic and encouraging.  Really motivational and supportive!  Awesome.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Definitely brings people into the community.  Highlights the desire to be active and outdoors.  Encourages people of ALL levels and abilities to get moving.  Very impressive to have the Wheelers in the race.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I enjoyed participating in this highly organized, challenging event.  I love the area and like how the course is different than a typical event, incorporating the dune climbing and kayaking.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“You guys put on a killer event, and thank you so much for doing it!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“After the race I went downtown, eat some food, booked a stay at the homestead and then bought some stuff from stores downtown. All because of the event.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“It’s well run and presented so that must help with the town of Glen Arbor’s image.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“It’s a Challenge! Yet everyone is encouraging everyone else on the coarse, “You can do it, and Great Job can be heard at every hill.”"
-From Event Exit Survey

“I think it is fantastic, to bring 700 athletes plus their support group, I personally spend at least $500 on food and merchandise for the weekend. KUDOS!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“It’s a fun, doable event for an average athlete. You don’t have to be in peak condition to finish but training helps. The scenery is awesome and so are the people. The staff, volunteers and racers are all very positive and kind. Good stuff.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“We make a guys weekend out of it on our house on Platte Lake it brings business into the area.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Participants can stop for a moment and think, “wow, I’m out here doing my endurance thing in the most beautiful place on earth!”  Talk about losing yourself in the surroundings… because each of the venue’s are perfect; the route to the dune climb, the fresh waters of Little Glen, and the perfectly smooth and scenic roads around Big Glen… you really can focus on being a competitor first and foremost, no matter your pace.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“The whole atmosphere of the race is so positive, the sights are gorgeous, and the challenge is incredible! Thank you for all of your hard work!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“The community is hugely supportive of the race.  Everyone who cheered from their driveways and boats really encouraged the athletes.  At one point, I saw little old lady standing in her driveway cheering and yelling at passing cars, “Get over.  These riders are the priority right now, dummy!”"
-From Event Exit Survey

“What a great event!  Don’t know what you could do it improve it.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Awesome event in an awesome location with awesome people… thanks!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Obviously it brings dollars into the local economy, but it’s a great opportunity to showoff all the great things Glen Arbor has to offer.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This triathlon is amazing! Where else can weekend warriors compete in the same race as olympic athletes? Bring your A-game and see how you stack up to true champions. The scenery is world-class and it is enjoyable for athletes of all skill levels.  By staging the run first, this race allows the experts to stretch out the field and compete without traffic while still allowing intermediate level athletes to race amongst their peers for their own individual goals. The distances are long enough to be challenging but short enough for average athletes to complete.  You don’t have to be superhuman to enjoy this race, but you need to bring your A-game to even think about breaking into the top 10.”
-Bryan Pryor

“This was my first Triathlon and I had a blast.  I felt like an Athlete competing against Athletes and not “Pros”.  It was well organized & the volunteers were awesome.  I will be back.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“It was an amazing feeling & sight when riding the course that the community supported the athletes along the route.  How sweet that was.  Just to know that they cared enough to come out and root us on.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Very inspiring.  Great venue. Awesome Friends!!!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“We rented a great cabin down from M22 Store!!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“It was a fun event, the whole atmosphere was non competitive. We stayed at the homestead and frequented many local businesses.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I think what I enjoyed most of all were the varying degrees of expertise of people in the race.  Just about every athlete was nice, helpful and kind. The volunteers were awesome!  I wasn’t expecting them to treat my boat with respect, and handle it as if I would. Other volunteers if they didn’t know the answer to a question, they found someone who did. My wife and I made a weekend for ourselves.  Today, we kayaked at Lake Leelanau and then biked the Pierce Overlook trail on an absolute beautiful day.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“The M22 Challenge was a great event for my wife and I.  We discovered 8 years ago and now treasure for  life the M22 environment.  The Challenge pulled together the environment, the lifestyle and the sports we enjoy.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“The M22 Challenge was the best event I have participated in.  I had several friends who were suppose to do it with me, but didn’t get in.  I was a little nervous at first without them, but immediately felt the positive energy of the volunteers and other participants.  Keep up the great work, and I’ll see you next year!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Awesome race with beautiful scenery.  Course is a challenge but not so much to remove all of the fun out of competition.  Loved the music and bonfire at the finish, it was a great touch.”
-Aaron Peoples

“A group of at least 15 did this race this year.  Some had done it last year too.  It was a great idea to run first, streamline all of those bikes. It was even more organized than last year.  Everyone in our group was extremely impressed & happy with the course & set up.  The newcomers are also looking forward to next year!!! Thanks!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Competitive enough for professional athletes and a very healthy challenge for first timers, the M-22 Challenge is one of the most fun events I’ve ever participated in! It was great to get periodic email updates in the months/weeks leading up to the race, and overall it is a very well organized event with streamlined transitions. My favorite part of this event was sharing the experience, beauty of the environment, and challenge of the course with the 550+ other competitors. Maybe it was just me, but it seems there is a real sense of camaraderie among the participants. Whether you’re huffing it up the dune or up to Inspiration Point, everyone around you is encouraging. You can be as competitive as you want, but ultimately this race is just a plain old good time. Anyone even entertaining the thought of trying it for the first time should just go ahead and plan to try to get a spot for next year! Job well done!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This years event was much better than the other years when the bike was first.  The bike first was a safety nightmare and drafting occurred.  The run first was a great improvement.  It was also very nice to see awards that are now going to the top three in each age group.  Big Improvement.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This is the most fun I have had racing, course is beautiful, and race is very well organized. Already thinking about next year.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“The M-22 challenge was a challenge, but the feeling of accomplishment for finishing it is worth all the training and preparation! Fantastic course, encouraging staff, and efficiently organized! Well done!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Best event I do! I’ve done this race since the beginning and will do it every year! Love the atmosphere and attitude. It’s competitive with a great deal of encouragement from all levels. Putting the run/dune climb first was ideal. I hope you keep it that way.  It’s a great excuse for me to travel “home” to beautiful Up North! :) Thank you for another outstanding experience! You guys ROCK!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I’m already make plans on what I’m going to do different next year. I haven’t ran a race since 1977. I really liked the the whole set up and the whole idea of it. It was really a great time. A good mix of people.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Loved the M-22 Challenge! Beautiful scenery, awesome course, excellently run event. Can’t wait until next year!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Beautiful, well-organized, fun, nice awards – especially for top racers.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Where do I start. It was extremely well organized. All event staff that I spoke to were great. The support from the public service, sheriff and parks personnel were very polite and friendly. I’m a biker so I would say that the this leg was the most fun. But I have to admit, the run up the dunes was great. Excellent event! Excellent job!”-From Event Exit Survey
“Again, this was an excellent event. It was very well organized and run. At no point did I ever sense any bit of chaos. All event staff were friendly and helpful. The course was beautiful (no surprise there) and challenging, yet something that almost any level athlete can enjoy. I believe that the kayak really opens this up to a whole group of people that would not ordinarily participate in multi-sport racing. You should be very proud of this event. You did an excellent job with it!!!! One other thing. The shirts are awesome! Almost worth the price of admission.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This was my second year competing in the M-22 Challenge and the race just keeps getting better!  I enjoyed the changes made this year and look forward to what’s to come.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This was a great race for every skill level. Everybody was already planning for the next year moments after completing the race.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“A great time shared by many friends of all different skill levels; hard to beat the scenery too!”
-Rupert Kudray

“The M22 Challenge was a blast!  You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful location. It was well-organized and very fun!  Will definitely do it again!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“A friend and I signed up together and have been working towards this since September. It felt fantastic! My favorite part was biking past a few men that looked quite strong walking their bikes up Inspiration point. It was a GREAT feeling to make it to the top!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I had such a great time!  Everything went very smoothly from registration to the start of the event–this was really important for a person that tends to get great anxiety before a race, and for someone that had never done this race before.  Having results available so quickly–right at the finish line was awesome!  The post-race snacks were great!  The vendors were great!  The volunteers were so kind and courteous!  Really put me to ease.  I can’t wait for next year!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I have done a TRI and this was way more fun and challenging. The course is great and it felt great to have accomplished something tough all before lunch time!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This event is absolutely great.  My husband & I have done this 2 years in a row & it is certainly a challenge, but also a great bonding experience!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“The M-22 Challenge combines an incredible setting with a friendly competitive atmosphere where you can encourage your friends and make new ones along the way.  Where else can you hear someone’s life story while going 29mph down Inspiration Point.  Maybe that’s where it got it’s name. :)
-From Event Exit Survey

“The M22 was a fantastic experience.  There was incredible support from the volunteers and other participants — you never felt like you were in it alone!  I love the format, i.e., kayak rather than swim.  I’ll be back every year!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This was so much fun! Can’t wait to compete next year!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Great race, great time! I had a ball and it kicked my butt. Who’s idea was it to run up the sand dune??? :)
-Brad Platt

“Awesome event in one of the coolest places in the country.  Nicely done!  Can’t wait to come back next year!”

“The M22 Challenge opened a new chapter in my life.  It was the first race of its kind that I have participated in, and the start of many to come.  Not only was the race exhilarating, but also serene, embracing all the beauty of Northern Michigan.  Completing the race, crossing the finish line, and celebrating with 500+ people was a truly memorable experience.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I’ve done many multi-sport events and this is my new favorite single person event in Michigan. The course, the scenery and most important the people were all just great. Even rain, running up a dune face and a giant climb on bike to Inspiration Point couldn’t take the smile off my face.”
-Scot Cave

“This event was challenging and fun! I plan to do it again next year, and was very impressed with the way it was organized and the friendly atmosphere of everyone involved! I really enjoyed it, and would definitely do it again!  I am interested to hear about the fall event. Thanks for putting on such a well run and fun, challenging race!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I thought this event was well planned, the co operation with crystal rivers was convenient and worked fine. (although the challenges people were eager to help and find a solution) the best part about this event is the people it attracts. The entire field of spectators and athletes are fun to be around and I will not miss another event. You could not ask for a better location to host an outdoor challenge like this, the scenery is second to none.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“The location was fantastic.  Even the poor weather conditions didn’t keep us from having a great competition.  This sure beats having knee surgery!”
-Mark “Mario” Rusch

“This is the ideal race for persons of any ability, from first-time triathletes and those at the ‘fun run’ level riding mountain bikes to elite racers who are dead serious about winning.”
-Bob Downes

“I think the writing’s on the wall for me.  I love your trophies and have been fortunate enough to receive one each year.  I treasure them.  I suspect my stand-up ‘boardhead’ devotion is going to ultimately be my demise.  (Its already a source of criticism as I regularly hear “doesn’t that guy know he’d be faster on a kayak”). Unless, of course, you decide to trophy the fastest SUP time or the first racer across the line who uses an SUP board.  Obviously this is purely self-serving advocacy. However, an argument could be made that your company’s roots are based on the surf board! (insert ‘chaka’ here) Thanks again, guys, for an awesome race.  I enjoy it more every year!”
-Steve

“I have never raced in an event that was better organized.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I participate in 10-12 triathlons per year and this is one of my favorites.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This was my first Triathlon so I didn’t know what to expect, but now I am hooked!  The entire event is very well organized and couldn’t be in a more beautiful location. Thanks for a great experience! I will see you next year!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Thank you for the amazing awards for the overall finishers. Wow.  The swag bag was really great as well.  Nice staff.  Moomer’s ice-cream was a treat.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I don’t have anything to compare to. This was my first race. However, this will be tough to top. Very well organized. I was amazed by the willingness to help from the volunteers. Thanks to all those that were there to cheer along the course. The extra motivation was needed. See you next year.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Tons of fun, awesome atmosphere, challenging course!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“An absolutely incredible experience in beautiful surroundings, an absolute joy for people who love to be outdoors and appreciate the Michigan landscape!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I had so much fun and I’m an old lady! (59) I hope it continues to grow and you deserve all the accolades you have received and more. I loved it, and I think my son and his fiance are going to do it next year too. Thanks so much for the hard work that you have obviously invested in this great event!”
-Jan Price

“I have run in several marathons including Los Angeles, Boston, San Diego and San Antonio and none were better organized.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“As runner and cyclist, the 2010 M-22 was my first multi-discipline event and what a great introduction!  I had such a good time mostly thanks to the fun attitude projected by all the staff and volunteers.  I raced it with 6 friends and they all had nothing but positive experiences this year.  The M-22 Challenge is such a good event in that it’s not too long, but hard enough to challenge both experts and casual racers.  I’ll definitely be back next year and before then I’m buying my own (lighter & faster) kayak!  Thanks to all the staff and volunteers than made it appear to be a seamless event, you guys rock!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“It was a great event.  Fun people, great energy and well organized.  I love the 3 events and to be able to do them all in beautiful Glen Arbor makes it a top notch event.  Can’t wait till next year.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Loved the event.  It was well organized.  Plan to make it any annual event for me and my neighbors.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I will definately be back next year with or without any changes made.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Again, I am in awe of how well you guys organized this race which really was sort of a logistical nightmare. I am the race director and organizer of a 100 person ski race at Black Mountain each year and am well aware of all of the “little things” that must be ironed out for an event to take place. Again, great job!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Thank you so much for putting on the event!  It was great!  Can’t wait until next year!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“The M22 Challenge was the first race I’ve participated in since I had a baby in 2008, and I’ve been looking forward to getting back to racing for a long time!  Needless to say it was a wonderful event for my return to competition since it is not a high-pressure venue.  Still, the competition was definitely there and now I have new goals to set for myself for the race next year.  The M22 crew, Crystal River Outfitters, and everyone involved made everything run like clockwork.  Because of their hard work, I’m sure this event will only get bigger and more popular.  Thanks so much for having this event, especially in such a beautiful place!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Very well run event.  Fantastic location and a awsome course.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Insanely well organized.  Everything went incredibly smooth.  Really good instructions for participants.  Best race packet bags EVER.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Such a fun event in such a beautiful setting!  You couldn’t ask for a better course!  My friends and family couldn’t stop talking about the event for days after.  We can’t wait for the 3rd annual one! Very well organized and so much fun!  The volunteers were great and it was nice to see them throughout the course taking pictures and cheering.  Great sponsors and it was wonderful to be at a “green” event.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I have been to many different types of races all over the world. This is a very unique event in an awesome natural area.. Well run, with lots nice volunteers.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This is the event in the Glen Lake area.  I have a home in Empire as well as Grand Rapids.  Several participants came from GR.  This should be a Summer staple for many years to come.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“The support of all the volunteers during the race was really great.  hearing people cheer as you run and bike by makes you proud and motivated.”

“Great event, awesome course, and fun people!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This was our first!  A group of 9 gals- age range 23-50!  It was a blast!  I need to train better for next year!  One very important thing I noticed when registering is the age bracket was different from what I’m used to.  Usually 20-29,30-39,40-49, etc.  I tried not to give up before it started being 40 competing against 31 y/olds!  Oh well!  I did my best.  It was well organized & a great time!  Thanks for being “out there.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I found the support from the residents along the route to be very cool. I have never been to a tri that has had so many people along the course cheering.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This triathlon was amazing! I would do it again in a heartbeat. The nicest people were there to cheer me on, even other competitors as they ran by. Overall, I had a lot of fun!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I enjoyed the fact that the M-22 Challenge was as competitive and/or as fun as you make it.  I joked with other bicyclists, was encouraged by other runners on their return loop, and talked to others in the kayak event, and still turned in a great time.  Didn’t bring home any hardware but hey…those guys are animals!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I think the event is small enough for families, young people  and novice participants to enjoy and to get their feet wet in this sort of competition but large enough & well thought out and organized in a way that the more advance competitor found it challenging.  I hope you keep the same route. I am looking forward to 2011.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“You guys did an amazing job and it was a wonderful event.  I’m proud to have taken part and I had a blast!  THANK YOU.”

“My wife Jill and I celebrated our 33 yr anniversary with this event.  This was Jill’s first ever race/competition as she has always been the support crew and lead photographer for me and our family.  I surprised/coerced her into this event knowing she would kayak instead of the normal tri swim.  She is now hooked and making plans for our entire family to participate in next year’s M22 Challenge.  Thank you for hosting a fantastic event and we look forward to next year’s challenge.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Fantastic event!  Very well organized.  Looking forward to next year!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“Your challenge has sparked a passion! Before Saturday I had never competed in any shape or form of a race. The entire experience from the day I registered online, training for months, lining up, sand between the toes, to crossing the finish line, has been a life changing event. Thank you for giving me such a great goal to work toward and accomplish. It has done more than words can describe for me in the last five months.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“This was one of the most fun races I’ve ever been a part of, and can’t wait to do again!  The setup was very professional, the course was beautiful and challenging, and everyone seemed in good spirits.  The music and food at the end were great too! Awesome job.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I loved this event.  As a competitive person who no longer is part of a collegiate team it was great to have something to train for.  The event also combined a full body workout–so great runners would also be challenged by the kayaking.”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I thought it was well done and after finishing, I am more likely to continue entering events like this! Ill be back next year!”
-From Event Exit Survey

“I really loved the M22 Challenge.  I plan to do it again next year and hope to bring some friends.  It was well organized and the venue is spectacular.  The dune climb and kayaking make this a truly one-of-a-kind experience.  Thanks for making this event so great!”

“Congratulations!!!!! What a great day. Looking forward to being a big part of next years event. Please keep us in the loop. After party is a must so that we don’t have to keep hearing Mike talk about it over and over again. He needs a place to be around other Challengers afterwards. Just kidding about Mike, but we do want to host next year. Thanks For Everything.”
-Becky

-Andrew McFarlane

“Thank you Keegan!  You and your brother and volunteers did a great job for your first ever tri!!!  Congrats!  Very well organized and run.  I’m talking to a bunch of my friends to all come up and do it next year!  What charity did the money benefit?  It’s nice to know that some of the entry fee helped someone/group in need.

Thanks again for the personal email….. I could’ve checked it online today! Have a great week!”
-Lisa Mize

“You guys did an *amazing* job and this event is such a wonderful thing for our community.  THANK YOU for everything – for your support, for including the Conservancy, having big dreams, for making them happen (and for finding a way to include me!!).

On a personal note, Saturday was the first time I felt like an athlete again in a long time…  Motherhood can really take it out of you – but it was great fun to train again and to show my girls something about who I was before they arrived!  :-)   I’m already looking for tri #2… looks like Dan Brady and I might tackle the Bowers Harbor one in August (in your neighborhood!).”
-Anne Shoup

“Congratulations on organizing such a well-run race. Everyone sure seemed to have a great time, & I heard many comments about competing again next year!!! We certainly enjoyed being a part of your race as “traffic controllers.”
We patronized Pangea’s Pizza on Front St. today when we were in TC, & I thanked the owner/manager for all the pizzas she donated. Told her we wanted to patronize some of the M22 sponsors since it’s such a great thing to do for the community.
Good luck on next year’s event………………hopefully you’ll reach the 500 mark I heard everyone mention.”
-Stan & Lorraine Kuk

“I had such a blast! I was so happy, thrilled and proud to finish only 15min longer than my 2hr goal. And even though I came in last place, I received a trophy — to say the least, it was very humbling and inspiring to stand on the podium with The Best Athletes. Overall, it was a truly wonderful event: the people (from organizers to volunteers, athletes to spectators) were friendly, encouraging and supportive with dynamic energy and impressive and excellent organization! I can hardly to do it again next year!!”

Reaching the top of the dune climb and looking over Glen Lake w/ the fog was BEAUTIFUL! That gave me a boost like, Ok…I can finish this! :)
